Guys, I whole heartedly intended to make churros from scratch. And then, I was like, nope. Hard no. Let’s make cheaters. So. Here we are today, with churro bites that literally require 4 ingredients. Okay, plus maybe some raspberry “sauce” (2 ingredients) and caramel (store-bought) for dunking.
Maybe you’ve seen this short cut before, but it’s one of the. best. to have in your back pocket for a super quick donut-y dessert.
First, you heat up a pot of oil to 375, which will be marked on your thermometer. Don’t guess – use the thermometer! I linked one similar to mine, which has a clip on the back so you can keep it right in the oil and monitor the temperature – you don’t want it to over heat or cool off too much.
While your oil is heating up, you pop open a can of BISCUITS. Yep, canned biscuits. Cut those bad boys in quarters. You’ll fry them on each side until golden brown. Pop the bites onto a paper towel lined sheet, and cool them about 30 seconds and then drench in cinnamon sugar. C’est tout!
Definitely serve these guys warm and don’t let them sit too long before serving. While this is a freaking fantastic short cut, and it is so quick, once they cool off, they do not taste good. Also, don’t skip the sugar. Even warm, without sugar they won’t taste good!
For the raspberry sauce, I used raspberry jam and watered it down until it was thin enough to dunk a donut but not too runny. You’ll know when you see it! I used TJ’s caramel sauce, but I’ve also used the one you’ll find in the fruit area of your grocery store!
Easy Churro Bites Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 qt vegetable oil, for frying see notes
- 1 can of biscuits (8 count)
- 1 c sugar
- 1 tbsp cinnamon or more to your taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oil to 375.
- While the oil is heating, cut the biscuits into quarters; mix cinnamon and sugar together in a separate bowl and set aside.
- Fry each side of the bites until golden brown, about 5-6 at a time depending on how large your pot is. Do not over crowd the pot, it will decrease the temperature of your oil.
- Remove bites from the oil and drain on a paper towel lined baking sheet for about 30 seconds.
- Roll bites in the cinnamon sugar, shake, and place on a plate.
- Continue with remaining bites.
- Serve warm (remember, these do not taste great once they’ve cooled too much. They also do not taste good without sugar.) with raspberry sauce (raspberry jam thinned with water), chocolate dipping sauce, caramel sauce, etc.
