Sauteed String Beans with Everything Bagel Seasoning

Beyond the obvious avocado toast or scrambled eggs, have you ever wondered how to use Trader Joe’s Everything Bagel Seasoning? I was in the store recently, buying yet another bottle of the stuff, and the cashier told me she makes string beans with lemon and tops it with the seasoning. Brilliant!

I have to admit, there are only a few ways that I really enjoy string beans. Okay, honestly, there’s 2. This way and when my mother in law makes them with mashed potatoes – like, straight up mixed in with the mashed potatoes, it’s my favorite.

Sauteed string beans, I think, are a little bit of a revelation, especially if you have enough patience to let them get a little charring on them. They really develop a more robust flavor and become a much more entertaining dish.

The key to a sauteed string bean is blanching the beans quickly before sauteeing them. This allows the beans to cook a bit before you sautee them up with olive oil or butter and some garlic and a dash of lemon.

One of my 2019 Bucket List items is to finish dishes I make for myself and my husband, and this is an awesome one to keep in my arsenal! Finishing the dish with fresh lemon juice brightens up the whole experience.

The everything bagel seasoning, really, I think is the secret in this string bean dish. You know if you’ve used the seasoning before that it’s excellent flavor – but you really taste it in this dish, plus it adds just enough crunch. The garlic and poppy seeds and sesame seeds really compliment the lemon. Well, and the butter these are sauteed in. Just a little butter, though!

This recipe comes together in just a few quick steps and just a few ingredients – just remember to have a little patience when you’re sauteeing so you get some crispiness!

I’d love to hear how you use the TJ Everything Bagel Seasoning! I need more ideas!
