fall essential: mint

i know what you are thinking right now – mint? for fall? it’s crazy, i know. but i really do love the color (any color really, but i do love mint!) for early fall. here are some of my picks and how i tone down the color in the cooler months. what are your essential fall colors? (psst i think you can do better than black and brown! oh and olive green too.)

fall essential: mint

i think mint is just gorgeous on any skin tone and any size. do it! (how cute would that skirt be with navy tights? yum!)

throw on a navy blazer with any color this fall to tone it down. this will help you transition your warmer weather pieces into the fall (also great under a chunky oatmeal or other neutral sweater when it’s super chilly outside).

fall essential: the flare jean

now that fall has officially arrived – not only in formality here, but also in temperature – it’s time to switch out the wardrobe and head for warmer clothes. this is my absolute favorite time of year. the air is crisp. the sweaters are layered. the boots and booties come out, the tights and skirts come out and the denim is heavier.

this week, we’ll be talking all about fall essentials, starting with my pick for denim – the flare jean. this is a little biased because i just discovered the flare jean is absolutely perfect for my body, but i think it looks great on anyone. from a boy shape, to a pear shape, trust me you can rock the flare.

you don’t want to confuse this cut with a wide leg jean, however. a wide leg jean is like a bootcut jean on steroids. what’s great about the flare is that it is fitted through the leg and then goes out slightly at the end. it doesn’t get heavy at the knee like a boot cut or even heavier like a wide leg jean.

pair with a great pair of fall wedges, boots, booties, or even a pair of patent leather peep toes for early fall. i prefer to pair flare with heels to give some height and elongate your leg – this helps you take full advantage of all this awesome cut has to offer. but if you opt for flats, just make sure you take your denim to a good tailor with a pair of flats so they can adjust accordingly. if you let all that cloth pool at the bottom of your leg it will do you no favors!

here are some of my picks for great flare jeans, just in time for fall 2012!

getting ready for fall

with cooler temperatures (note “cooler” not “cool”) beginning to creep in on the nyc metro area it has me thinking about moving my summer wardrobe into an early fall look. how do i take my summer uniform of distressed cuffed denim jeans, a white t, and nude peep toes into the fall?

easy! throw on a cropped blazer in a sweet and girly hue and a pair of fantastic camel pumps to wean into the fall spirit. hey, it’s better than thinking about all of the cozy sweaters that i’ll have to write about soon once the weather truly breaks! plus i’m not quite ready to part with my summer uniform.

gifts for men

when you need to buy a gift for the man who-has-everything (love you pops) or the man who-buys-what-he-wants-when-he-wants-it (love you hunny), it can be a challenge. you search and search for that one “thing” that would be perfect for the occasion. a shirt? really (really) nice denim? a wallet? cuff links?

it’s been done. and then it sits in the closet. or dresser. it doesn’t go anywhere – it’s not consumed and enjoyed. that’s why i love to gift consumable gifts with a “leave behind,” if you will. think of it as purchasing a really fantastic bottle of wine and gifting it with two beautiful wine glasses – the glasses are a leave behind. the leave behind becomes a smaller token of the experience you gave.

i love the idea of gifting cigars for my boyfriend. he’s really into them, but i know they can be expensive. purchasing 3 of his favorite, or of something he wants to try but wouldn’t buy himself would be a great gift. then you can up the ante with a funny or personalized lighter and a nice cigar cutter (note: spend the extra few dollars on a good cigar cutter for him. even if you don’t go as far as getting a personalized cutter, he’ll appreciate that it’s not going to break, and he probably won’t buy anything more than a $3 cutter for himself, anyway).

karma

i wanted to write a post about karma as bad karma has been wished upon me recently, and it got me thinking. yes, i absolutely believe in karma because energy is neither created nor destroyed. when you put good energy out into the universe, it comes back to you, and when you put the negative energy out there, it comes back to you too.

like they say, what goes around comes around.

this is my theory though. when you’re putting love out into the universe and cutting appropriate ties, your karma is just fine. because at the end of the day, this life is all about love – it is far too short for anything else.

and all i have to say to the haters, is you worry about your karma and i’ll worry about mine.

gold at your fingertips

okay, i know – it’s more like gold on your fingertips.

i’ve been trying to figure out a way to get gold on my nails without being inappropriate in the work place, feeling like i’ve gone overboard, or feeling as though i look like a 5 year old who stuck her fingers right into a big jar of glitter. in other words – i was looking for a dose glam with subtlety.

yesterday i stumbled across this post from Nomadic-D. her neutral take on gold nails is seriously perfection. i immediately purchased only gold for me by opi (which Nomadic-D used in her manicure) and this cappuccino colored neutral polish.

what do you think?

this and that: chanel and anthropologie

i know. it sounds so strange. who would think you could make a connection between chanel and anthropologie? then again, who would think you would make the connection between superman and chanel.

when karl lagerfeld’s chanel fall/winter 2012 stepped out at paris fashion week, they made the connections so possible for us, between chanel and anthropologie and chanel and superman. so throw a little crystal into your own home, inspired by none other than mr. lagerfeld himself with this crystal clear trinket box. enjoy!
