I always find myself scrambling for a few little things just a few days before the holidays. Typically, we start Christmas shopping in October to slowly check off our lists. And then, come December ~22nd I realize I forgot one or two little things I needed to add or realized I needed a hostess gift.

These little stove top potpourris are one of my favorite hostess gifts – love a consumable! I also love the excuse to make a batch of these so I have some stove top potpourri for Christmas Eve, the one holiday we host each year.

These stove top potpourri are perfect for some last minute gifts, you’ll just need to dehydrate the oranges. After that, it all comes together as fast as you can sing jingle bells.

So, you’ll thinly slice the oranges and bake in the oven for about 2 hours, until they’re dried out. Definitely use a piece of parchment paper or silpat so the orange slices don’t stick to your pan. If they do, it’s harder to remove the slices and they’ll crumble. #personalexperience

So, all the ingredients you’ll need for one bag are:

 • Dried orange slices (3-4 per bag)
 • Fresh cranberries (1/2 c per bag)
 • Cinnamon sticks (3-4 per bag)
 • Cloves (10 per bag)
 • Ever green sprigs (3 per bag)

Package up in a ball jar or treat bags with ribbon. Add a bell and/or some fresh ever green for a little added touch! I add the directions on the gift tag, which just say to add the mix to a pot with 2 cups of water and simmer on low. You’ll just keep topping off the pot so it doesn’t dry out and then your house smells so perfectly holiday homey!

$15 Trader Joe’s Hostess Gifts https://herlongwayhome.com/trader-joes-hostess-gifts/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=trader-joes-hostess-gifts https://herlongwayhome.com/trader-joes-hostess-gifts/#respond Thu, 19 Dec 2019 15:21:59 +0000 https://herlongwayhome.com/?p=5530 Continue Reading…]]> This time of year, I’m always trying to come up with some cute and clever hostess gifts that don’t kill your bank account but also feel like a thoughtful gesture. It’s the thought that counts!

I love a consumable gift, especially for a hostess gift, and when I saw this olive oil set from Trader Joe’s I knew this would be a great part of a gift! The set comes with three oils, one each from Italy, Greece and Spain. Together they would make a great present, but you can separate them and get 3 gifts out of the $10 set.

I scooped up some small trays at Target for $10 each and a set of three dish towels at Home Goods for about $6 total. Target, of course, has great options for the towel – I like these, these, these and these for friends celebrating Hanukkah.

I grabbed some festive ribbon at Michael’s and just layered tray, towel and olive oil, topping each with a few sprigs of evergreen off our tree. Each of these cost about $15, which feels perfect for a sweet hostess gift everyone will love to receive!

Chocolate Covered Clementines with Maldon Salt https://herlongwayhome.com/chocolate-covered-clementines-with-maldon-salt/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=chocolate-covered-clementines-with-maldon-salt https://herlongwayhome.com/chocolate-covered-clementines-with-maldon-salt/#respond Sat, 14 Dec 2019 15:51:21 +0000 https://herlongwayhome.com/?p=5520 Continue Reading…]]> This time of year, I go all in on the clementines! I love that the winter is a time for citrus to shine. I also go all in on the quick and easy treats, like these chocolate covered clementines. I actually will confess to you – these are tangerines. Trader Joe’s ran out of clems!

You know from my “recipe” for no-bake shortbread cookies, I love a good, easy, quick hack for a treat. All you need is the chocolate hard shell – this one is my favorite, and some Maldon salt. The salt flake is the key. Y’all know how much I love salt, and I take it very seriously. When you finish a dessert with salt, you want a large flake and the Maldon flakes are the best.

Growing up, my mom Santa dropped a clementine in the bottom of my Christmas stocking. It was always the last thing to pull out, and smells and tastes like Christmas morning to me. Now, I stick one in hubby’s stocking every year and next year we’ll stick one in Baby’s stocking!

Chocolate Dipped Clementines with Maldon Salt

One of the quickest treats you’ll ever put on a dessert table! This comes together with minimal effort and just 3 ingredients.
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 10 minutes
Total Time 15 minutes

Ingredients

 • 1/4 container Dulci Frutta or other chocolate hard shell
 • 3-5 clementines
 • Maldon salt, for garnish

Instructions

 • Peel 3-5 clementines, or as many as you want!
 • Melt the Dulci Frutta or chocolate hard shell according to the package instructions. (I use a double boiler since we do not have a microwave, which works as long as you make sure you don’t get any water in the chocolate.)
 • Working quickly, dip 5 wedges in the chocolate and then sprinkle on the salt before the shell hardens.
 • Repeat with remaining wedges.
 • Once hardened, refrigerate until serving or leave at room temp (the chocolate shell hardens so it doesn’t have to be refrigerated if you are short on space!)

8 Gifts for Homebodies https://herlongwayhome.com/8-gifts-for-homebodies/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=8-gifts-for-homebodies https://herlongwayhome.com/8-gifts-for-homebodies/#respond Sat, 14 Dec 2019 00:14:22 +0000 https://herlongwayhome.com/?p=5512 Continue Reading…]]> I love this time of year, when the house gets all cozy with Christmas decorations and the fireplace and pajamas all weekend. I am definitely a homebody, and as this bump grows (25 weeks and counting!) I’m finding myself loving being home even more as the urge to nest starts to kick in.

This is probably my most favorite gift guide of all time – someone give this list to Santa for me, k?

I was inspired by this popcorn maker to put our little homebodies gift guide together – as we were testing it out, I started thinking about everything in our home I really love and think would make a perfect gift. I’ve made some notes to tell you what we own and love!

 1. Air Popcorn maker (the white is only $22!) – we just got this and love that you really can’t burn the popcorn. I would add on a set of kernels to a gift, too, like this or this.| 2. Roomba – okay, this is a total luxury and not something I would buy for myself but we were gifted our Roomba and love it. It’s nice to just have it run every day between major vacuuming.| 3. Barefoot Dreams Socks – I bought these for myself and LOVE them, they’re so cozy and warm. | 4. Jammies! – this is the pair from this post. |5. An electric kettle – tippy top of my list this year!| 6. Aera Smart Diffuser – I love burning candles (here are my 3 favs for the season from Target) and think they make a house feel homey. We don’t have this diffuser but I’ve heard great things and it’s definitely on my wish list this year! | 7. Faux Fur Blanket – I love a cozy blanket, and to be honest, I am a sucker for a good throw! | 8. A pretty game, like these dominoes, and a bottle of wine!
