luck of the irish

i’m not irish – norweigan and polish over here, so not really close at all – but i can get behind the whole st. patrick’s day thing. it’s all about having fun. and eating and drinking and wearing green. here’s a little irish inspiration to get your creative juices flowing on how to wear green all month long. i mean, why not celebrate fun all month?!

jcrew fall preview

i love jcrew – if you didn’t know that, then you clearly only read my blog for the pictures – and even that should really tell you i am obsessed with jcrew. they do no wrong and inspire my outfit choices daily.

what i loved about their fall looks were the combinations of not only colors and patterns but the mixing of texture. also love how they pair some of the more casual pieces with something dressier or more “professional.” try it out – mix a nice hoodless sweatshirt with pants and a collared shirt, or a t-shirt and pencil skirt or trousers.

which were your favorites from the fall ready-to-wear preview?

the white t-shirt

there is nothing more classic or versatile than a good white t-shirt or button down. i’m all about the t-shirt personally. grab one that is a little silky or extra luxurious fabric and you have a really great base for any look. when you’re younger, think 20s and early 30s, you can totally make a white t work its tail off in your wardrobe. seriously – casual, to work, to sexy to fancy, a white t always works. it’s the quintessential must-have then when you find a great one, you purchase several.

here are 4 ways you can style that little t this week!

style icon: reese witherspoon

reese witherspoon is one of my all time favorite actresses. i really love her movies – they’re feel good. make you laugh. you can watch them over and over again. seriously – does sweet home alabama or legally blonde ever get boring? walk the line? no.

she has also been one of my favorite style icons to watch over the last decade. my style has shifted while hers has too, and every once in a while a little dose of reese is just what i need to shake up some combinations in my own closet.

who are your style icons?

hoop there it is

sorry for the cheesy title – i really just couldn’t help myself. be forewarned, it happens again below.

i wanted to take a moment to talk about the hoop earring. big to small hoop, they’re truly a classic. they can be elegant and they can be trendy. these days, you can definitely find a pair with a little edge or a little refinement – it’s all up to you, your style, and whatever you feel like expressing on any given day (that’s what it’s all about anyways isn’t it? whatever mood you’re in, express it!).

here are seven modern takes on the classic hoop – which are your favorites? i kind of want them all!

SAG awards best dressed: top 10

on monday i did a brief recap of the best navy dresses on the SAG awards’ red carpet sunday night. some of those are even on my best dressed list, which is right here, right now, just for you. these 10 ladies looked utterly fabulous – overall the SAG awards truly trumped the globes for me in terms of fashion.

which looks were your favorite? which are inspiring you?

zuleikha robinson memeka sag awards best dressed

i loved zuleikha robinson’s memeka gown – not a huge fan of printed gowns, especially halle berry’s globes dress from earlier this month. but this gown just does it for me. i love the way she pulled together her entire look and love the soft colors on flowing fabric.

naya rivera in donna karan best dressed sag awards

naya rivera sexy as always in donna karan. loved the neckline on this – saw a lot of the corset inspired shape on this red carpet and am totally in love with the trend. i hope to see more of this shape in stores this spring and fall.

frieda pinto in roland mouret sag awards best dressed

frieda pinto rocked my world in roland mouret – neon. on trend. perfection.

jennifer westfeldt blumarine sag awards best dressed

jennifer westfeldt in blumarine. gorgeous. elegant. old hollywood. in love. wish i could wear this somewhere…just need an occasion. hmm…

mayim bialik best dressed sag awards

mayim bialik, i love you in this color! it’s bold, fresh and youthful. i may or may not have purchased an essie polish in this exact color (it’s called butler blue and is AMAZING). i appreciate that the pattern of the lace is broken up by her belt – good move.

kiernan shipka oscar de la renta sag awards best dressed

is kiernan shipka not utter perfection in oscar de la renta? i am in love with this look – so perfect for her age. this is how you walk the red carpet as a younger actress. midi length is in – highly recommend it, just wear with pumps and tights this time of year and not boots. boots will add too much weight to your look.

elisabeth moss sag awards best dressed gabbana

elisabeth moss in dolce and gabbana is the chicest i’ve ever seen her. i love the contrast of black on her skin, love the corset top of this, love the sequins, love the simple shoe, love the hair, love the makeup, love the pop of bright nails. this might just be my absolute favorite look of the night and one that truly can translate into an accessible look off the red carpet, too!

seyfried sag awards best dressed posen

again, seyfried in zac posen. this gown is incredible. it fits her perfectly. love the color. love the hair. love how it all comes together. red carpet perfection!

jessica chastain mcqueen best dressed sag awards

jessica chastain was gorgeous in this alexander mcqueen – i loved this look overall much more than her globes look.

jlaw best dressed sag christian dior

and jlaw chic in christian dior. quite the gorgeous lady!

it’s up to your knees out there

it’s winter. it’s very, very cold here. though there hasn’t been much snow as of yet here in NJ, i have been thinking more about what i will do when it actually does, in fact, start snowing AND it’s in the teens. what am i going to wear to truck out to the car in the snow?! what am i going to wear in between the car and the office?!

not uggs.

yea, you heard me. uggs are so not cute, in case you’ve missed the memo. but neither are super macho boots. so i decided it was time to find some relatively cute adult alternatives to the ugg. in fact, i found 7 to pick from.

cold weather boot alternatives to uggs
1. burberry 2. boohoo ($40 and apparently comfy!) 3. jcrew sperry’s 4. san bernardo 5. hi-tech 6. jcrew sperry 7. sorel

on trend at the SAG awards: ladies in blue

navy blue was quite the hit at the SAG awards last night! i do like navy on the younger ladies – much more youthful and less harsh than black. plus we are headed into spring now, which deserves less harsh colors. there were some fantastic spring focused gowns on the red carpet – more on that later this week.

which color trends did you like at this year’s SAG awards?

nicole kidman killed it for me in vivienne westwood. i thought this gown was much more appropriate for her age than her golden globes gown.

slide_277127_2031831_free

marion cotillard always hones in on that je-ne-sais-quoi that french women always seem to possess in christian dior.

slide_277127_2031832_free

amanda seyfried rocked some zac posen. loved this on her.

jlaw does no wrong in my book. she’s fantastic. always.
