nailed it: perfect holiday party nails

it always seems to me this time of year comes with a lot of red and sparkles – glitter, sequins, rhinestones. so what could be better than a mani with both of those seasonally appropriate trends? um – nothing!

try this combo for the perfect holiday manicure that can take you from office to office party and beyond:

here’s what you’ll need: butter londoncome to bed red, west end wonderland and your favorite top coat. (i like deborah lippmann‘s.)

holiday dresses under $100

yes, ladies, it is possible to find a fantastic party dress for less than $100 (a few of these picks are even under $50!). i love this time of year – holidays and new years eve are great excuses for a little sparkle (though i always say there is never an occasion that isn’t right for sequins).

here are some fantastic picks for this holiday party season, a few are even family function appropriate.

do you get dressed up for the holidays or are your parties more casual?

on trend: tights & skirts (or dresses!)

i’ve never been big on tights. or dresses and skirts during the winter. but with my style evolving a bit, i think this is the year these two things will collide.

i absolutely LOVE (yes, capital L-O-V-E) the look and, bonus!, it helps take your other season wardrobe pieces and winterfy (or fallify) them.

here are my favorite looks:

(v, vi, vii, viii)

you probably have most of the basics to pull this kind of look together – but here it is in a nutshell. remember, you can always shake things up with some accessories, booties vs boots, colored tights, etc.

budding style icon: mindy kaling

if you don’t know who mindy kaling is you are either about to or you live under a rock – i haven’t decided yet.

in all seriousness, i love this woman. she is incredibly talented and funny. she’s quick witted. she’s stylish. smart. did i mention talented? major girl crush over here.

i’m loving her status as a budding style icon – she is looking ah-may-zing on the red carpet and perfectly adorable in interviews. you should probably also pick up a copy of her book. just sayin.

living in: bewitched

inspiration is everywhere, right? yup! enter: bewitched. yes, the show that our mothers watched as girls and we watched on nick at night.

i love this show – it makes me smile, wish i was this age in a completely different era, and swoon over the mid century inspiration in every episode (i try to ignore how chauvinistic darren is):

here are my picks to achieving the bewitched look in your own home:

casual fridays

i’ve been extraordinarily lucky that since i’ve graduated college i haven’t been required to wear a suit to work every day – for me every day is like a casual friday! well for the most part. there have been plenty of days that have required me to up the ante.

anyway. if you are in an office that only gives you a casual day once a week, i’ve pulled together a go-to look just for you. if you get this “jean day” once a week, i would tend to assume you are in a relatively conservative office. so start with the basics – a casual blazer, a button down with a tiny pattern, a pair of dark wash jeans, and flats. please, don’t ever wear a pair of light washed jeans to an office. even if every day is casual friday. (ok, unless you wear a great pair of quality distressed jeans with a blazer and pumps – another post for another day.) when in doubt, go dark wash. it looks more professional, tailored, clean – shall i go on?

it’s easy. you can mix these pieces endlessly into your wardrobe. it’s worth investing in the classics. you could also pop a trendy top under this blazer – maybe some silk and ruffles? i could get down with that.
