kate middleton: purple holiday inspiration

i love kate middleton’s style – the princess/duchess is most definitely in my top 3 on my style icons list. eh, she might even be number one. i think she’s fantastic. she’s timeless. she’s trendy. she’s classy and graceful – all the things i want to be – ha

the duchess’ signature color has been navy blue because of her engagement ring, so when she wears color i just swoon. also when she wears anything that isn’t a dress or a skirt, but i digress.

here we have some inspiration for a holiday look – a little pop of color a la kate middelton – plus the dresses to get close to the look!

i love this rich purple on kate – pair this dress (very reasonably priced at $63 from KOHLS! (i know!)) with a sparkly brooch and pull your hair back. elegant for the in-laws, definitely. (ps i saw this dress in the store and it is much closer to the color of the dress kate is wearing than the picture would have you think)

i also loved this soft purple alexander mcqueen dress kate wore last year. so soft and feminine.

most of us don’t get to wear a ballgown very often, so here is a shorter and much more affordable (on sale for $80!) kate-inspired frock. pair with tights, pumps and a black velvet jacked for a holiday-ready look.

fear not color, dolls. a little pop can go a long way. case in point, christine from my style pill, who so frequently fearlessly rocks color. i stumbled on this image on pinterest, scooted over to jcrew and found the blythe blouse. once i clicked through to the canary post on my style pill i realized it was the exact blouse christine is rocking in this set of photos. 1 for me!

so here is your homework for the weekend – throw on a little color and spice it up!

glamming up an every day look

so when it’s raining, like it is today, just about the last thing i feel motivated to do is look cute. the absolute last thing i want to do is dry my hair.

but there’s something about a button down and sweater that just makes me feel like a boy. to glam up a basic look, i add a cute pair of flats, a statement necklace, and skinnies (to make sure i actually look like a girl. if skinnies don’t work for your body type, any other pair of jeans that you feel amazing in will work perfectly). oh and a ballet bun and lots of eyeliner and mascara.

so, you know we love white denim after labor day. and while we believe you can absolutely take your whites into winter, we have to admit we feel it’s a little to spring for being in the heart of winter. we received the Elle Street Chic Daily and saw this woman wearing white jeans in a perfectly seasonal way, so we wanted to ask you – do you wear white jeans to give your outfits a pop in the winter?
