I’m calling this drink a margarita because there’s tequila involved and it pairs so nicely with my fish tacos I’m dishing out for our cinco de mayo party this weekend.

The grapefruits were so fragrant at the market, I couldn’t resist. As soon as I caught the scent walking past them I knew they would be perfect with some tequila and seltzer. Is this an actual margarita? To me it just needs tequila to be called as such!

It’s just about the easiest “margarita” you’ll ever make. Rim the glass with a wedge of grapefruit, salt the rim, squeeze the grapefruit to fill the bottom little lip of a margarita glass; top with a shot of tequila, a splash of seltzer (might I suggest grapefruit seltzer) and few ice cubes. Garnish with grapefruit. That’s it!

Light and refreshing and without all that sugary sour mix!

Skinny Grapefruit Margaritas

Yield: 1 | Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients:

1 fresh grapefruit

1 oz your favorite tequila

Splash of seltzer (you could also use a grapefruit flavored seltzer)

Margarita Salt

Directions:

Rim the glass with grapefruit, dip in margarita salt.

Squeeze enough grapefruit juice into the bottom of the glass to fill that little bump (probably about 1 oz)

Add your favorite tequila and a splash of seltzer to fill the glass. Add ice and garnish with grapefruit! That’s it!

Easy, Simple Jalapeno Margarita Recipe

Time: ~3 minutes | Yield: 1 cocktail

Ingredients:

2 shots of jalapeno tequila, or your favorite silver tequila for less spice (which is what I used!)

1 shot triple sec

2 tbsp Rose’s sweetened lime juice (found in the cocktail section of your grocery store)

A few slices of fresh jalapenos, with seeds, more for garnish

Squeeze of fresh lime and fresh lemon

Margarita salt

Directions:

  1. Muddle 1-2 slices of jalapeno in a cocktail shaker.
  2. Add all ingredients, except the margarita salt, to the shaker with a handful of ice.
  3. Shake all ingredients.
  4. To salt the glass rim, take a wedge of lime and run it around the rim, then dip in margarita salt. Margarita salt is also found in the cocktail section of your grocery store, but you can also use kosher salt!
  5. Pour into a glass over a few slices of jalapeno for garnish!

We’re serving up this jalapeno margarita with our barbacoa tacos, which you can find here. And be sure to check out all our recipes for your cinco de mayo party here.
