one blouse: four ways

what i love about jcrew is the versatility of their pieces. they are made to not be worn as one outfit, but be remixed and reused multiple times. one thing you can learn from “the crew” is to be fearless. throw different colors together (like pink and red!). put on polka dots with a floral print. put neon pink over navy. do it with a smile and you’ll pull it off.

when i purchased this top i wasn’t quite sure how i would wear it. then i thought, hey with colored jeans! or ivory shorts! or blue slacks! or a bright pencil skirt! i was so happy i made the purchase because it’s a versatile piece – key to bringing new frocks into your collection.

street style inspiration and girl crush – my style pill

fear not color, dolls. a little pop can go a long way. case in point, christine from my style pill, who so frequently fearlessly rocks color. i stumbled on this image on pinterest, scooted over to jcrew and found the blythe blouse. once i clicked through to the canary post on my style pill i realized it was the exact blouse christine is rocking in this set of photos. 1 for me!

so here is your homework for the weekend – throw on a little color and spice it up!

classic (casual) wardrobe pieces worth the investment

there are a few things every woman needs in her closet. granted, this list could go on and on and on (yes..and on). i could add in different kinds of tops, cardigans, dresses, business attire, etc. but when it comes down to it, there are certain pieces that are worth the investment and others that are additions to a base.

here are a few things that i think are essential to any casual wardrobe. they are classic, timeless, and when you find the perfect one, you hold on to it forever, take care of it, and sometimes (perhaps with a perfect white blouse and jeans?) you purchase more than one.

so here we go.

every woman needs: a trench coat that cinches the waist for a sexy line, a crisp white blouse and the perfect jeans that hug in all of the right places. a gold watch, a diamond necklace with a little of your own flare to it, and a pair of pearls will always steer you in the right direction. finish everything off with black shoes – a simple pair of black flats, a pair of flats with a little extra jazz and a mid-height pair of black pumps are essential from your casual to your work looks.

pretty in pink

with just under two weeks to go until v-day, i thought it would be an appropriate time to start getting in the mood for some pink!

despite its correlation to love and hallmark holidays i really do love pink this time of year. it’s gloomy outside, cold, wet. it’s hard to get out of bed. but a pop of color can really brighten up your day and your mood. they say to wear red to improve your mood, but i think pink is great too, especially hot pink.

what will you be wearing this winter to kick the winter blues?

when it’s cold outside

this weather has me longing for a cashmere turtleneck sweater in a bright color that brings a hue to my face. plus they say red cheers you up!

though, i am color blind – i hope this is a reddish/orange, not an orange that could flag down a plane.

i love combining a cozy sweater with the perfect pair of skinny jeans and a great pair of flats – or riding boots. this weekend, i vote for riding boots! it’s a classic look that will never go out of style, which means these are great investment pieces. i always think jeans that fit you perfectly are a great investment, especially when you have a good tailor. but red cashmere, nude flats and a good pair of riding boots? definitely wardrobe staples!

baby, it’s cold outside

i remember when i was in probably 5th, 6th and 7th grade puffer jackets were in. and then they were so out. and as they say, fashion comes and goes in cycles, and they are most definitely back in – with vengeance and absolute style.

here are my top three picks for puffer jackets – from swiss army and jcrew – should the weather ever get cold enough to warrant one of these perfect coats.

glamming up an every day look

so when it’s raining, like it is today, just about the last thing i feel motivated to do is look cute. the absolute last thing i want to do is dry my hair.

but there’s something about a button down and sweater that just makes me feel like a boy. to glam up a basic look, i add a cute pair of flats, a statement necklace, and skinnies (to make sure i actually look like a girl. if skinnies don’t work for your body type, any other pair of jeans that you feel amazing in will work perfectly). oh and a ballet bun and lots of eyeliner and mascara.

get the look!

audrey, marilyn and jackie o

after seeing the incredible my week with marilyn, i realized that audrey hepburn, marilyn monroe and jackie kennedy all had one thing in common (among many others, i’m sure). the black turtleneck.

whether you’re an audrey, marilyn or jackie, the one wardrobe essential all of us leading ladies must own is the black turtleneck!

get their look by pairing a black turtleneck with black or denim skinnies. we reco jcrew’s luxurious cashmere sweater – but really, any black turtleneck will do.
